Hideaway (1995).  Portrays Morton Redlow, a rather hapless private investigator, who realizes too late that the subject he has been sent to shadow is a murderous psychopath.  Result: death by crowbar.

This movie is an adaptation of a Dean Koontz novel. Great vehicle for Jeff Goldblum to do his twitchy thing, but otherwise unremarkable, as the scariest thing about it was Redlow's outfit.
